Lift Troubleshooting is an independent UK information resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any lift, stairlift, platform lift or elevator manufacturer named on the site. All brand names, model designations, warning lights and trademarks referenced belong to their respective owners and are used solely for identification and editorial purposes.
2. Informational purposes only
Content on this site is general guidance written in plain English to help owners and facilities managers understand the fault their lift may be showing. It is not professional engineering advice. Lifts are regulated machinery: installation, mechanical repair, safety-circuit work and any task inside the controller, motor housing, pit or shaft must be carried out by a properly qualified lift engineer working in line with LOLER, the manufacturer’s instructions and the relevant British Standards.
3. No liability for actions taken
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator accepts no liability for any action taken — or not taken — on the basis of information published on this site. If in doubt, stop and call a qualified engineer.
4. Emergencies
If someone is trapped in a lift, use the lift’s alarm button and stay on the intercom. Call 999 in a medical emergency. Never force the doors, attempt to move a stuck car, access the pit or shaft, or bypass safety interlocks.
5. Scope, sources and accuracy
Content is compiled from manufacturer documentation, official brand publications, documented service-provider references and UK regulatory material, then written into plain English. Error and fault code references are held to a stricter standard than the rest of the site: a code appears with a meaning attached only where that meaning came from one of those sources. Forum posts, recollection and plausible-sounding inference do not qualify, and codes we cannot source stay unpublished rather than being guessed at. Even a correctly sourced code can be model-specific, revision-specific or reused by a manufacturer with a different meaning on a later controller, so treat every published meaning as a starting point for a conversation with an engineer rather than a diagnosis.
Company records in the lift services directory are compiled from publicly available sources — company registers, publicly listed contact details and firms’ own published information. We do not verify insurance, engineer competence, accreditations, pricing or current trading status, and none of that should be inferred from a listing. Inclusion is not a recommendation, exclusion is not a criticism, and no listing is paid for, ranked or commissioned. Registered details change without notice; check anything that matters directly with the company before instructing it.
Pages carry a last-updated date and are revised when a manufacturer changes its documentation, when regulation or guidance moves, or when a reader reports an error. Regulation described here reflects the position in the United Kingdom and may not apply elsewhere. Corrections are welcome and genuinely acted on — a wrong code meaning or an out-of-date company record is worse than no entry at all. Tell us which page and what is wrong via the contact page and we will review it.
6. No professional relationship
Reading this site, or contacting us through it, does not create a professional, contractual or advisory relationship of any kind. We are not engaged as engineers, surveyors, competent persons, consultants or legal advisers, and nothing published here or sent in reply to an enquiry should be treated as a professional opinion on your specific equipment, building or circumstances. Where a page describes what a symptom “usually” indicates, that is a general pattern drawn from published documentation, not a diagnosis of the lift in front of you — the same behaviour can have several causes, and only somebody inspecting the equipment can distinguish between them.
Regulatory material referred to on this site describes the position in the United Kingdom and is summarised for general understanding. It is not a substitute for the regulations themselves, for official guidance, or for advice from a competent person on how a duty applies to your installation. Regulation, standards and manufacturers’ instructions change; a page that was accurate when written may not reflect the current position, and the last-updated date shown on a page is the only claim we make about its currency.
