A reference list of 150 lift service companies across 120 UK towns and cities, grouped into 3 categories: Consultant, General Contractor and Services.

Each entry has its own profile page carrying the registered company details we could check from public records, along with the trading category and location the company itself publishes.

It exists because finding out who actually works on lifts in a given part of the country is very hard. Search results are led by national advertising.

The smaller regional firms that do most of the work are often invisible. Compiling the registers into one browsable list makes that comparison possible.

What it is not: a ranking, a recommendation, or a lead-generation product. There is no paid placement, no affiliate arrangement and no ordering logic that favours anyone.

Two routes in. Browse by city when the constraint is location and you want to know who is near the building. Browse by category when the constraint is the type of work.

Routine maintenance and breakdown cover, independent advice, or a wider construction package.

Once you have two or three candidates, ask each the same questions: which makers and lift types they cover. Whether they can source parts for your equipment, their insurance position.

How engineer competence is assessed, callout times for a breakdown against a planned visit, and — for any lift carrying people. How LOLER thorough examinations are handled and who acts as the competent person.

If somebody is trapped in a lift, that is not a directory problem.

Use the alarm or emergency telephone in the car, or the number on the notice in the lift, stay in contact with the person inside, and wait for the release company or emergency services.

Never try to open doors or move the car yourself.

For all else, a few notes taken from the landing make the first conversation much shorter: the lift type and rough age, the manufacturer and model from the plate.

What the lift is doing now, any code or symbol on the display, who holds the maintenance contract, and the date of the last thorough examination.

Records are built from public sources. Company registers, publicly listed contact details and the companies' own published details. Where a registry match was possible we show the registered name.

Number and office; where it was not. The entry says so rather than guessing.

We do not check insurance, competence, engineer qualifications or whether they still trade. None of that should be inferred from a listing.

Company details change constantly, so treat every entry as a pointer to check rather than a fact to rely on.
